Radiate

100cm x 100cm

Acrylic on Canvas

This piece was created for a young Filipina doctor who found herself in transition while the piece was in progress.  Initially, it was a piece for her new home, which she wanted to have a young, modern, Filipino feel.

With a touch of a weaving pattern on the left inspired by mussel shells from my trip to Coron, Palawan (also while the commission was in progress), that portion reminds ourselves of the imperfections found in nature, and in ourselves as human beings.  These imperfections make us who we are, unique and ever changing.

In the middle of the commission, she was engaged to get married, and our piece was also in transition as we opted to make a portion of the piece about the love between a mother and child.  As a thanksgiving to her mother who raised her on her own, the piece "Radiate" is inspired by this unconditional love and bond between mother and child.  Before leaving the home where she was raised, she wanted to bring along to her new home a piece that would remind her of that love and bond.
